The New Era

Well...it's been quite a while. And I've decided that since two of my good friends have moved very far away, I'm going to use this blog in part or whole to send them messages or images about what's happening on this side of the world or memories of fun times from the past.

Today's image is courtesy of the day we drove around exploring Newfoundland. That trip was chilly but wonderful, and the Newfoundland coast, curious and beautiful.

rain...

Today it rained for the first time this year...
Yes, i know that that doesn't seem so exciting, but when its been snow, and wind, and cold, and more snow all winter...(which by the way...i think the winters are getting longer by the year, and they just seem to drag on and last forever).
I love the change in seasons when the frozen starts to thaw and the dead comes back to life...there's so much metaphorical and beautiful about it.
SO today it rained, and it reminded me that seasons change and life changes and time passes. And when everything seems frozen and like trudgery, hope springs to the forefront.

So, basically once everyday, or sometimes twice a day, someone will ask me a variant of "So, what are you going to do when you graduate?".... Frankly, while I know that they are asking because they care about me, here's the news...listen up people.....I DON'T KNOW!!! I'm not trying to be rude, I just have no answers. You don't think perhaps I'm stressed out enough about this whole topic with some 23 days to go?? So I've now resorted to taking suggestions. Yah for suggestions!!! So anyone got any good ones???

what is with people?...

What is with my level of commitment?
There are days when i feel like i am the only one who is commited to things.
Do i just have an overactive sense that once you commit to do something, especially if you are in a position of leadership that you should do it to the best of your ability and not just run away at the first chance. Is this just a remnant of my growing up?
I always thought that you give it your best shot. Maybe I shouldn't be so judging - maybe they are giving it the energy and commitment that they can spare. I dont know - maybe i just need to relax my standards of commitment. BAH!!

Apparently....

...it gives some of you angst that i don't unpdate my blog as often as i should - but c'mon, as if two months is a long time....seriously people.
So alas, here's something new for you whiners...

CHRISTMAS is only 2 months away. I am so excited. Granted i really am not excited for the snow, and the crazy drivers it makes, and the getting up earlier in order get to Professor Ian's 8 oclock class on time, BUT i am so excited about Christmas. It always goes by so fast that once it's over, it feels like i 've missed it.

I love the smell of Christmas - the smell of snow (that breezy cold smell that freezes your nose hairs together), the smell of cookies in the oven, of the fireplace, of apple cider and cinnamon, of freshly washed sheets, of pine tree in my living room...
oh and least we forget- the smell of eggnog :)

So my encouragement for today - start anticipating Christmas and all it symbolizes NOW, so that you can celebrate for longer...and not miss it this year

And the # of crazies grows...

After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from one city to the next had escaped.
Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride.
He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days.

Nuts...

Let me share my FAVORITE joke....

On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me," said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence.
Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you one for me." He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off!
Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along. "Come here quick," said the boy, "you won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls." The man said, "Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk?!" When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled to the cemetery.
Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me..." The old man whispered, "Boy, you've been tellin' the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord." Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord. At last they heard, "One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done."
....... They say the old man made it back to town a full 5 minutes ahead of the boy on the bike.
